COMMUNITY ERUPTS IN FURY OVER LITTER CRISIS

Bulawayo – A heated dispute has been brewing in the community of Tegela over the growing problem of litter in the area. Residents are at odds over who is responsible for the trash on streets, sidewalks, and bushes.

The tension arose at an online WhatsApp meeting, where tempers flared, and voices were raised. “It’s disgusting!” exclaimed one of the residents. “I’m tired of seeing trash everywhere I go. It’s a health hazard and an ugly sight!”

Some residents pointed fingers at the residents of a neighbouring suburb, accusing them of not properly disposing of their waste. “They’re the ones bringing all this trash from their neighbourhood, but they’re not taking responsibility for it,” said Mr. Sibanda, a longtime resident.

Bulawayo City Council said they are doing their part and that the real problem lies with litterbugs and a lack of designated waste disposal areas. “We pay our taxes and expect the city to provide basic services like clearing bushy areas to avoid them being turned to dumping sites,” said Ms Chandiruma, owner of a residential business.

The community is divided on how to address the issue. Some demand stricter regulations and harsher penalties for littering, while others advocate for more education and outreach programs to raise awareness about the problem.

City officials have promised to increase trash collection services and implement new initiatives to combat litter, but residents remain skeptical. “We’ve heard promises before, but nothing changes,” said Mr Gabellah. “We need action, not just words.”

The dispute has sparked a broader conversation about the need for community meetings and accountability in addressing local issues. One resident noted, “We all need to take responsibility for our actions and work together to keep our community clean and beautiful.”
